Thirty six of our Year 8 students took part in an Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge Day in March, organised by Science teacher, Dr Jones, and DT DCTL, Mr Watkins. The day was run by IET Challenge Leader, Dr Mick Dunne.
Students were required to design, make and present a product - specifically something to keep a child in hospital entertained - that incorporated electronic systems. They worked as a team to create their concept and bring it to life, using their F120 budget to buy construction materials from the 'shop’ to manufacture their product.
The winning team (see image below): Brooke S, Emily A, Holly M, Alfie H, Evie F and Aston M, were presented with a trophy and Amazon vouchers.
IET Faraday Challenge Days are one-day cross-curricular STEM activity days that introduce students to engineering, inspire them to consider it as a career and help to develop their practical and employability skills, including team working, problem solving and creative thinking.
