Our Year 8 Swimming superstar, Oscar dV, continues to make a name for himself in the sport. Swimming at county level and the current national record holder for his age group 1500m Freestyle, Oscar is about to embark on a national age group development programme in Derbyshire as part of the Olympic Development Programme.
Recently, Oscar took part in the North Midlands Championships in Macclesfield, along with representing Staffordshire at both the Three County Championships in Bristol and the National Inter County Championships in Sheffield.
Staffordshire came sixth overall in the National Inter Championships, with Oscar supporting through the 100m
backstroke, the boys age group medley team race and the 50m freestyle mixed relay. All three performances were strong and he learnt a lot from a very strong level of competition.
Over the course of two weekends' racing at the North Midlands Championships, Oscar came away with ten medals from the races he entered - nine gold and one silver! He delivered a fantastic set of results and achieved loads of personal best times, including his national 1500 metre freestyle record of 17:54.73
Oscar also took part in a Skins race whilst at the North Midlands event. This takes the fastest age 14 and under boys from the 200m Individual Medley race and puts them in a knockout event. A random stroke selection for every 50m race with the slowest swimmer knocked out every round. Oscar won three heats on his way to the final.
Oscar is incredibly commitment and dedicated to his sport and balances this with his school work. He trains for around thirteen hours a week with before-school sessions undertaken every Tuesday and Thursday plus evening and weekend sessions most days.
We look forward to hearing more great news from you, Oscar, and are eager to hear how the Olympic development goes!
