Ms Figiel's Year 8 Scientists are studying the Digestive System as part of their 'Alive and Kicking' topic.

They tested a food sample for protein and whether the protease enzyme broke it down to form amino acids using the Biuret test. If protein is present, the sample turns purple. Blue means no protein is present, proving that the enzyme had broken down the protein.

The other food test was for the presence of fats and oils. As the lipase enzyme broke down the fats in the food sample, the sample changed from pink to a cloudy colour.
