Eight of our Year 12 students - Becky L, Barney M, Harriet W, Darcy F, OIly P, Amelia G, Caitlyn B and Lewis D - traveled to London in March to compete against three other schools from Aylesbury, London and Leeds to become the Debating Matters House of Lords Champions 2025.
Becky and Barney debated against Thomas Tallis School from London, with the theme: 'Humanity should fear advances in artificial intelligence,' and Aylesbury Grammar School and Abbey Grange Academy, Leeds debated on the theme of: 'We should build on the green belt
Our team argued well, demonstrating a mature and considered debating style, but were narrowly beaten by their opponents. Becky L won an award and an honourable mention for her contribution to the debate.
After lunch the winners of the first two debates met each other to put forward their case for whether 'Assisted dying should be legalised'.
As part of the day, the teams also enjoyed a tour of the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster.
It was a wonderful opportunity and great experience for these young people, who made us all extremely proud.
